Musculoskeletal pain & injury

The most common reason people come to PerforMotion. Whether you are fresh off a diagnosis, post-surgery, or have been dealing with something persistent for years, exercise physiology addresses the underlying cause, not just the symptom.

Conditions and presentations:

  • Back pain and disc injuries
  • Shoulder injuries and rotator cuff pathology
  • Knee injuries: ACL, meniscus, patellofemoral
  • Hip injuries and labral pathology
  • Tendinopathies
  • Post-surgical
  • Biomechanical issues and movement dysfunction
  • Sport injuries and return to sport
  • Repetitive strain and overuse injuries
  • Neck pain and cervical spine conditions

How it works:

Chronic disease

Exercise is one of the most effective interventions for chronic disease management. PerforMotion designs programs that are medically informed, individually prescribed, and built around what your body can do right now.

Conditions and presentations:

  • Diabetes and blood sugar management
  • Osteoporosis and osteopenia
  • Metabolic syndrome
    • Obesity and weight management
    • Mental health conditions
  • Autoimmune conditions affecting exercise capacity
  • Inflammatory conditions such as arthritis, fibromyalgia

How it works:

Women's health

PerforMotion takes a whole-person approach to women's health. Hormonal changes, pelvic floor function, bone health, and the demands of pregnancy and postpartum are all part of how we provide care and program

Conditions and presentations:

  • Pelvic floor dysfunction
  • Prenatal and postnatal exercise
  • Return to exercise after childbirth
  • Menstrual cycle and hormonal considerations in training
  • Bone stress and stress fractures
  • Perimenopause and menopause
  • Endometriosis and pelvic pain
  • Hormonal conditions affecting exercise capacity

How it works:

Mental health and exercise

The relationship between movement and mental health is well established. PerforMotion is a neuro-affirming, LGBTQIA+ inclusive facility. We meet people where they are, work at a pace that feels manageable.

Conditions and presentations:

  • Anxiety and depression
  • ADHD and executive function challenges
  • Autism and sensory sensitivities
  • PTSD and trauma-informed exercise
  • Eating disorders and exercise relationships
  • Burnout and chronic stress
  • Low motivation and exercise avoidance
  • Exercise as part of a broader mental health plan

How it works:

Neurological conditions

Neurological conditions require careful, individualised programming. PerforMotion works with people managing neurological diagnoses to build capacity, maintain function, and improve quality of life through targeted exercise.

Conditions and presentations:

  • Multiple sclerosis (MS)
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Stroke and cerebrovascular accident (CVA) rehabilitation
  • Acquired brain injury (ABI)

How it works:

Strength and performance

PerforMotion was built on strength training. The exercise physiology team works with competitive strength athletes, people returning to sport, and anyone who wants to train seriously without compromising their health. Rehab and performance are not separate things here.

Conditions and presentations:

  • Powerlifting and strength sport rehabilitation
  • Return to barbell training after injury or surgery
  • Load management for competitive athletes
  • Overtraining and overuse injury prevention
  • Biomechanical assessment for strength sports
  • Training through chronic injury or pain
  • Transition from rehabilitation to performance membership options

How it works:

Weight management

PerforMotion approaches weight management through the lens of health, function, and sustainability, not aesthetics or quick fixes. Exercise prescription is combined with nutrition support where needed, and the focus is always on what your body can do.

Conditions and presentations:

  • Medically supervised weight management
  • Metabolic conditions affecting body composition
  • Weight management as part of chronic disease management
  • Post-bariatric surgery rehabilitation and exercise
  • Obesity-related musculoskeletal conditions
  • Weight management for strength and performance athletes
  • Eating disorder-informed approaches to body composition

How it works:

Strength, conditioning and fitness

Not everyone who comes to PerforMotion has a diagnosis or injury. Some people just want to train well, stay healthy, and have a program that is actually written for them. Our gym memberships include EP-written programs for exactly this reason.

Conditions and presentations:

  • General strength and fitness goals
  • Adults over 50 looking to build and maintain strength
  • People returning to exercise after a long break
  • Busy professionals wanting efficient, effective programming
  • Group class participants wanting individualised support
  • People transitioning from rehab into general training
  • Athletes in off-season or general preparation phases
